How to: Install a PS/2 mouse.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, connect the new mouse to a PS/2 mouse port, and turn on the computer. Install a PS/2 mouse driver if necessary.
1) Shut down Windows 95, and turn off the computer.
2) Connect the new mouse to a PS/2 port on the back of the base unit.
NOTE 1: A PS/2 mouse port is a mini-DIN exactly like a mini keyboard connector.
NOTE 2: PS/2 mouse ports and bus mouse ports use identical connectors, but are incompatible with one another. Refer to the computer user's manual for proper identification of a mini-DIN connector.
CAUTION: Connecting a PS/2-style mouse to a bus mouse port can damage the motherboard and the mouse.
3) Turn on the computer.
NOTE: Windows 95 may auto-detect and configure the mouse.
4) If the mouse was not auto-detected, install the mouse driver.
NOTE 1: The mouse installation disk may include a program that tests the mouse installation (typically named Test.com). Refer to the mouse installation manual for detailed configuration information.
NOTE 2: If the mouse does not work after installing the mouse driver, check for a resource conflict with the PS/2 mouse port. PS/2 mouse port connectors commonly use IRQ12 and I/O port address 60h and 64h.
